Viral photo of a Cadbury Creme Egg reveals disturbing sugar content

The Kiwi treat's ingredient list has left it with egg on its face.

A post that depicts the sugar content of the Cadbury Creme egg has gone viral. The post shows a humble Creme Egg next to a pile of sugar equivalent to the amount of sugar the egg has in it; a whopping 26 grams – more than 6 teaspoons.

The original photo was posted by Rebecca Bilham, a UK mum on the page The Little Red Hut Home & Gifts. Bilham was concerned after realising what her son was actually eating.

She told The Sun that “I found the amount of sugar claimed to be in a Creme Egg frightening to be honest, we all know they’re full of sugar but actually seeing it in pure form it appears such a lot.

“I have let my son eat them at Easter, but I am conscious of his daily intake anyway and when you see eye opening content like this on social media it does make you stop and think twice.”

Chocolate fans will rejoice to hear that Bilham added a bit of perspective to her words of warning: “we are chocolate lovers in our household and won’t be stopping eating them completely! Everything in moderation I think.”

Although the post has garnered 4.2k reactions, 6,113 shares and 14k comments so far, Twitter seems to be more concerned about how to pronounce “creme” (Cadbury reckons it is said “crem”).
