My Lady Jane is the new swashbuckling ‘romantasy’ Tudor romp that turns history on its head

Lady Jane Grey was a young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded ...Screw that.

Here at Now to Love we’re big fans of a romantic historical romp and we’re currently looking for something to fill the Bridgerton hole in our hearts. Enter My Lady Jane, the new swashbuckling romantasy series set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world, coming to Prime Video

Fans of historical dramas set in the Tudor period (think The Tudors, The Other Boleyn Girl) will want to give this radical retelling of English royal history a whirl.  In reality, Lady Jane Grey (King VIII’s great niece) held the throne for just over a week before she was usurped in favour of her Catholic cousin Mary I. (A very basic history lesson for you)

In this romp of a fictional version, King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her scoundrel of a husband Guildford. Jane, shocked to be crowned queen, finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head). It promises action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance and “rompy pompy”.

Who stars in My Lady Jane?

The cast is led by newcomer Emily Bader in the titular role of Jane Grey. Starring opposite her is Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve) as Guildford Dudley.  Jordan Peters (Pirates) plays King Edward. Dominic Cooper (Preacher) plays Lord Seymour, Anna Chancellor (Pennyworth) plays Jane’s mother, Lady Frances Grey, and Rob Brydon (The Trip) plays Lord Dudley, Guildford’s father.  Jim Broadbent (The Duke) plays the Duke of Leicester, Jane’s uncle.
