When I was at a café with a friend, she ordered her hot chocolate and refused the offer of a marshmallow. She’s a vegetarian, but a marshmallow is about as far removed from meat as you can possibly get, surely! I wanted to ask her about it, but she gets a bit fed up having to explain her food choices.
Marshmallows have gelatin in them – and it’s made by boiling the tendons, ligaments, skin, bones, hooves and horns (where applicable) of pigs or cows. Granted, the finished product is pretty far removed from those original animals, but,
if she takes her diet seriously, I can understand her refusing the sweet treat.
