Black Friday 2026 is still a couple of months away, but if there’s something big on your wishlist, now’s the time to start planning. This year, Black Friday falls on Friday, 27 November, followed by Cyber Monday on Monday, 30 November – and if recent years are anything to go by, plenty of New Zealand retailers will start their sales well before then.

When do Black Friday sales start in New Zealand?
In 2026, Black Friday officially falls on Friday, 27 November, but brands typically begin their sales activity in early to mid-November. In recent years, many retailers – including those based in New Zealand – have kicked things off as early as mid-October, teasing VIP previews or offering early access to email subscribers before their main sale begins.
The wider November shopping period also includes Singles’ Day on Wednesday, 11 November, while Black Friday weekend rolls into Cyber Monday on Monday, 30 November 2026.
What will Kiwis be shopping for this Black Friday?
Last year’s spending gives us some clues about where shoppers may be looking for value in 2026. ANZ card data showed New Zealand spending strengthening through November 2025, with durable goods recording the strongest annual growth at 8%. ANZ noted that Black Friday likely contributed to the lift, particularly in durable purchases.
Higher-value purchases also appear to be something shoppers increasingly plan around the sales. Afterpay reported that its average BFCM basket increased 11% last year, while almost half of shoppers surveyed said they planned to wait for discounts before making expensive purchases.
With that in mind, these are some of the categories and products we’ll be watching as Black Friday 2026 approaches.
1. Beauty, grooming & wellness sales to watch in 2026
Beauty devices are firmly on our Black Friday watchlist for 2026. At-home LED and red-light therapy continues to grow, with increasingly sophisticated face masks, wands and other devices joining the market this year. Premium hair tools are also worth keeping an eye on, particularly higher-priced dryers, stylers and multi-stylers.
Fragrance may be a bigger focus than usual, with scent layering and building a fragrance wardrobe among 2026’s beauty trends. Meanwhile, wearable wellness tech continues to expand beyond traditional smartwatches, with screenless fitness trackers and other discreet devices designed to monitor health and activity gaining attention.
2. Fashion, footwear & accessories sales to watch in 2026
Rather than shopping a trend for the sake of it, Black Friday can be particularly useful for buying pieces already on your wishlist or replacing hardworking favourites at a lower price. For 2026, we’ll be watching sales across sneakers, activewear, summer fashion, handbags and accessories, and reporting back on our top picks as New Zealand retailers announce their offers.
3. Homewares & kitchen appliances sales to watch in 2026
Higher-value purchases are particularly worth researching ahead of Black Friday. NZ Post’s analysis of the 2025 peak shopping season found the average online basket across Black Friday/Cyber Monday reached $138 – a total $15 higher than the wider Q4 average.
With Kiwis increasingly planning more considered Black Friday purchases, we’ll be watching for deep discounts across coffee machines, air fryers and multicookers, cookware and other kitchen appliances, alongside bedding, furniture and homewares.
Top tip: If you have a specific model or big-ticket item in mind, note its usual price before November so you can tell whether a Black Friday discount represents genuine value.
4. Tech, electronics & vacuum deals to watch in 2026
Tech and appliances are another area where Black Friday can make sense for a planned higher-value purchase.
According to NZ Post, online spending across the four-day Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend increased 10% year-on-year in 2025, compared with 2% growth in-store. Clearly, Kiwi shoppers are doing the groundwork: coming into Black Friday prepared to tick off the major purchases previously made closer to Christmas.
In 2026, we’ll be tracking Black Friday deals across laptops, tablets and phones, headphones, e-readers, smartwatches, TVs and home entertainment. Vacuums and floorcare will also be on our radar, including cordless stick vacuums and robot vacuums from the major brands.
