We reveal how to get the enviable physique of the stars. This week: Jane Fonda's waist.

She was the aerobics queen of the 1980s and years of exercise have paid off for Jane Fonda, who defied her 74 years with the trimmest of waists on the red carpet at Cannes recently. Despite a new hip in 2005 and a knee replacement three years ago, she has maintained her fitness.

She has made a comeback with The Prime Time, exercise DVDs for older people. “It’s important to exercise when you’re young,” she says. “But it’s the number one ingredient for successful ageing. It makes a difference to all aspects of life.”

TRY THIS: The V-sit rotation is a great way to trim the waist.

Sit on the floor with your legs in front of you and knees slightly bent so the soles of your feet are flat on the floor.

Cross your arms over your chest and, keeping your back straight, lean back from your hips.

Raise your feet off the floor slightly if you can.

Exhale, twist to the right and come back to the centre as you inhale.

Repeat to the left. Repeat six to eight times each side.
