After two decades of creating botanical skincare powered by Aotearoa botanicals, Antipodes has ventured into a new category: haircare.
The glossy green bottles, inspired by pounamu (New Zealand greenstone), are a gorgeous addition to your shower shelf. But the real talking point among beauty lovers is the way the brand has brought its skincare expertise to haircare.
In line with the growing “skinification” haircare trend, rather than treating your tresses as something to cleanse, condition, or temporarily smooth, Antipodes’ haircare leans into the idea that healthier, longer hair starts with a well-cared-for scalp.
The Antipodes haircare range includes three shampoo and conditioner duos targeting classic hair concerns: damage, frizz and lack of volume, alongside a nourishing treatment suitable for all hair types, including curls.
Behind the launch is extensive consumer research into what users actually want from their haircare. Speaking to more than 900 people about their hair priorities, Antipodes found that only 47% considered their scalp healthy. With this insight, the range was developed with a strong focus on scalp care, before being tested with more than 600 participants across New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and France, covering a diverse range of hair types and textures.
An additional trial was conducted with 71 participants with curly and coily hair for the Lime Caviar Intense Nourishment Hair Mask.
After testing, the feedback was overall positive, with users reporting softer, shinier, more hydrated and stronger-looking hair. As for me, I’m one week into trialling the Mānuka Honey & Orange Shampoo and Conditioner. My thin, split-end-prone hair already feels silkier with added bounce, and I’m yet to reach for my regular dandruff shampoo.

Best for: Moisturising and strengthening heat-damaged, coloured or weakened hair
If your hair is feeling the effects of heat styling, colouring or too much sun, the Fig + Feijoa Repair & Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner go beyond surface-level smoothing to help improve the look and feel of damaged hair.
With regular use, this herbaceous-scented pair helps revive dry, brittle or low-elasticity hair, leaving it noticeably softer and stronger.
What users say: In Antipodes’ consumer trial, 90% reported visibly less frizz, 85% said their hair looked healthier, and 82% felt it was more nourished.
Key ingredients:
- Black maca, traditionally valued for its antioxidant properties, to support stronger-feeling strands and keratin production
- Rosemary oil extract, harakeke flax gel and avocado oil to nourish the scalp, hydrate and smooth hair
Best for: Smoothing and softening frizz-prone, dry or unruly hair without heaviness
For hair that craves hydration but is easily weighed down by richer formulas, this floral-fruity duo provides lightweight, slow-release hydration for softer, sleeker hair, while minimising frizz and flyaways.
Tip: If you’re moving away from silicone-based haircare, allow a few weeks for your hair to adjust as old residue is gently washed away.
What users say: In Antipodes’ consumer trial, 90% reported softer-feeling hair, 82% said their hair looked and felt smoother, and 80% felt more hydrated.
Key ingredients:
- Hydresia (oleosomes derived from safflower seeds) for slow-release hydration and frizz control, acting as a natural silicone alternative
- Plant hyaluronic acid, mamaku black fern and coconut to hydrate, smooth and soften hair
Best for: Boosting volume, shine and scalp balance in fine or oily hair
Fine or oily hair often loses its freshness by day two, but this lightweight formula refreshes the scalp without stripping moisture and adds volume and shine without leaving residue.
So far, my hair stays cleaner longer, so I can stretch washing to every 3 to 4 days. My naturally dark, black-brown hair is already fairly glossy, so the biggest difference I’ve noticed with the Mānuka Honey & Orange Volume & Shine duo has been softness and manageability rather than extra shine.
Tip: For oil-prone scalps, I find that double-shampooing and taking time to massage the scalp leaves my hair feeling noticeably fresher and bouncier.
What users say: In Antipodes’ consumer trial, 90% reported a clean, refreshed scalp, 77% noticed more shine, and 69% said hair felt thicker and healthier.
Key ingredients:
- Xylishine bioactive seaweed extract to help restore damaged cuticles, support volume and enhance shine
- Kakadu plum, kiwifruit extract and Mānuka honey to soothe the scalp, hydrate and support overall hair health

When your ends feel parched, or you need a weekly reset, the zesty Lime Caviar Intense Nourishment Hair Mask delivers deep nourishment and a refreshing scalp boost.
