• Vitamin B is said to repel mosquitoes, so take a B complex tablet. Also eat lots of Marmite or Vegemite – beer can help too!

• There is also evidence mosquitoes (and aphids) are attracted to yellow and lemon. Put some Sunlight dishwashing liquid in a yellow saucer with some water and place it outside.

• Burn citronella candles or oil burners with lavender oil in them.

• Make a mixture of 50ml almond oil (or olive oil, just for a good base) and add 10 drops of lavender essential oil, 10 drops of rose geranium essential oil, and you’ll not only smell great, but it will keep the mosquitoes away.

• It’s a bit smelly, but rub yourself with a garlic clove.

• Grab some basil from the garden, crush it and rub it on.
