A red lip never goes out of style, and at the Cannes International Film Festival this week both Aishwarya Rai and Kendall Jenner gave a master class in how to pull this look off!
Aishwarya matched her ruby-red pout to her gorgeous tiered dress from Oscar de la Renta, while Kendall opted for a black two-piece Alaïa number and simple, pulled-back hair.
To recreate their red carpet worthy looks on your own, here are the key tips you need to know:
Prep your lips
A matte red lipstick can be unforgiving on dry, flaky lips, so make sure yours are smooth and well moisturised! Create a DIY lip scrub by mixing a little olive oil and honey with brown sugar. Rub gently over your lips, clean off with a tissue and follow up with a soothing lip balm.

Red lips make a bold statement, so the punchier they are the better! Make yours go the distance by using a lip liner in a similar shade first.
Trace the outline of your lips carefully and then fill it in lightly with the liner. This will give your lipstick something to stick onto and ensure the colour won’t feather or bleed outside of your lip line.
Apply using a lip brush or straight from the tube. Once you’ve got your first layer on, blot with a tissue and apply again for long-lasting colour.
