We’re zooming towards Christmas at the speed of light, so it only makes sense to celebrate with some essential otherworldly festive viewing. Kiwi Whovians are receiving a very special gift this year – a new Doctor Who Christmas special, arriving to Disney+ on Boxing Day.
It’s the second Christmas special starring Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth Doctor. In this episode, entitled Joy to the World, Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan will join him as Joy.
Ncuti told the BBC that this feature-length episode has a “joyous, lovely, warm Christmassy feel”.
“There is so much heart in this story which touches on loss, love and humour, which is exactly what you want for a Christmas Day adventure with the Doctor.”
Additional cast includes Steph de Whalley as Anita, Jonathan Aris as Melnak, Joel Fry as Trev, Peter Benedict as Basil, Julia Watson as Hilda and Niamh Marie Smith as Sylvia.
Is there a trailer for the new Doctor Who Christmas special?
There sure is, and in it we see multiple Doctors, the reappearance of Millie Gibson’s character Ruby Sunday, an alien concierge, and Nicola Coughlan using a hairdryer as a weapon. It’s fair to say we’re all in. Check it out below.
When can we watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special?
