Put a cork in it

Dear Wendyl, Can you settle an argument for me? oy husband insists that when we buy a bottle of wine it is corked, not screwcapped. This is getting really embarrassing at restaurants where corked wine is not always readily available and he gives the waiter a lecture about stocking “proper” wine. I see no difference in the quality but he won’t listen. He’s a big fan of yours on the radio and said that if I wrote to you he’d abide by your decision. Help me – I want to enjoy restaurants again! Dear Diana, I’m afraid I’m going to have to side with your husband on this one – not for taste or quality reasons but to save the environment. Harvesting cork is an age-old practice that keeps the world’s relatively small population of cork oak trees, which can live for hundreds of years, alive. Cork oak forests in Portugal and Spain shelter a wide array of biodiversity and wildlife.Wendyl
