Having two wombs, and carrying a twin in each, made Liz Breach a one-in-five-million mum.
Liz (33) told of her shock when she became the only mother in New Zealand to have this type of pregnancy. With odds of five million to one, Liz was born with two wombs and, surprisingly, became pregnant with a baby in each.
It was a challenge carrying the twins, so when Jack and Ysabella finally arrived safe and well, Liz, her husband Jason (40), and sons Trent (8) and Logan (4) couldn’t wait to share their excitement and joy in a heartwarming story last December.
The adorable twins have now turned one and are keeping the family on their toes. “They are incredibly cute,” coos Liz.
But along with the joy of the babies’ safe delivery came shock and sadness when the family home in Christchurch was virtually destroyed by the earthquake in September.
Luckily, the family escaped without injury when the massive quake struck, but the house was left severely damaged. “I was looking forward to life with the new babies, but the earthquake put a damper on it,” says Liz.
After having the house checked over, Liz and Jason have just been told that it’s not salvageable and a new one will need to be completely rebuilt on the site.
But Liz, who had her tubes tied after having the twins, says that although it’s devastating, she’s blessed that her family is alive and well, despite the hassle of having to make a new home.
“We are safe and sound, and that’s all that matters,” she smiles.
