Hen-night artists

A night is nothing new – until the bride-to-be whips out a pencil and starts sketching him.

Forget taking photos to try to remember that last night of freedom, the latest trend among hens is to use the stripper as a life model and create a nude work of art.

Best mates and stay-at-home Auckland mums Amanda Arnold and Sasha Watson (both 36) came up with the bold new business idea after Sasha had organised Amanda’s own hen night two years ago.

“Both of us had been to many cheesy hen nights that revolved around a man in a costume doing a striptease. We saw a real need to celebrate the occasion with some sophistication – and a totally nude man, of course,” she laughs.

Amanda and Sasha share a passion for art, and combining that with a bloke in the buff made for the perfect business idea.

Two months ago, they launched their party company Strike A Pose, and have already hosted a handful of hen nights for budding artists.

As well as providing the nude life model – a hunk with no trunks – the two give the arty partygoers an on-the-spot lesson in life drawing.

“Grandmas, daughters, mothers-in-law – all kinds of women can take the class. No artistic talent is needed – just a willingness to let your hair down and give it a go,” says Sasha.

Feedback from happy hen-nighters has been positive so far and bookings are steadily increasing for Strike A Pose.

Sasha and Amanda say it’s proof that Kiwi women do want tasteful options for the traditionally raunchy night out.

And at the end of it, each partygoer has a personal masterpiece – along with the hangover – to remember the sketchy night by.
