Every generation think they were cooler than the one before, but what is deemed to be worthy of the cool badge by teens in 2017?
A new survey by Google of more than 1,000 US teens
According to the research, “It’s Lit: A guide to what teens think is cool”, Generation Z define cool as: “being yourself, embracing what you love, rejecting what you don’t, and being kind to others”.
Males and females found things cool by different means – boys are more likely to be persuaded by fads or friends that something is cool, while girls choose based on who something makes them feel.
The coolest music across the board included Drake, The Beatles, Panic at the Disco, Beyonce and Coldplay.
The brands ranked as most cool were:
YouTube
Netflix
Google
Oreo
Xbox
GoPro
Playstation
Dories
Chrome
And the least cool were:
The Wall Street Journal
Vice
Whatsapp
McDonalds, Red Bull and Pinterest were also labelled “uncool”.
