Two young children have lost their lives after they were left in a vehicle at their family home.

The three-year-olds, named Oliver and Aria Orr, were found unresponsive in a vehicle parked in their family driveway in Bossier City, Louisiana, last weekend.

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths, though an autopsy has already confirmed their deaths were heat related.

Their mother is reported to have gone to neighbours to ask after the children, when they went missing on Saturday afternoon.

At 3pm local time, the children were found unresponsive in the ute, and were rushed to hospital. Tragically, both twins were pronounced dead on arrival.

Their father, Travis Orr, works at the local police department where the tragedy is being investigated.

Neighbour Rhonda Matthews told a local paper that mother Alisha had taken a nap and woke to found her kids missing.

She went to Rhonda’s house for help, before finding the children in the vehicle.

According to Rhonda the mum tried to administer CPR upon finding her kids unresponsive, but she was unsuccessful.

Bossier City Police Department posted a message on Facebook commemorating the children: “We are saddened by the tragic loss suffered by the Orr family, and our hearts are heavy. This is a very difficult time, but it’s even more so, as they are a part of our Bossier Sheriff’s Office family. Please keep Deputy Travis Orr and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
