Luuka Jones, surprised the country with her outstanding performance this morning to win a silver medal in the canoe slalom at the Rio Olympics.

While she was the slowest qualifier for the final, Luuka led the final at one point, but was narrowly beaten by Spaniard Maialen Chourraut who took gold.
This is the 27-year-old’s third Olympics. She didn’t make it past the heats at Beijing in 2008, and made the K-1 semifinals in London four years ago when she finished 14th.
In the lead up to the Rio Olympics, the Weekly teamed up with SKY Sport presenters Scotty Stevenson and Melodie Robinson, to go behind the scenes with some of New Zealand’s top athletes for a bit of one-on-one training – including with medal winner Luuka.
