Getting rid of gum

Help… I have just got chewing gum all over my new cotton dress and have no idea how to get it off, any simple yet effective ways?

Rub the spot well with a piece of ice in a plastic bag to harden the gum. Scrape off as much as possible, then dab the remaining stain with methylated sprits. Wash it in the usual way.
