As the clock struck 12 on New Year’s Eve, many of us may have been looking for someone to sneaky kiss with.
But it turns out, as well as being pretty fun, a quick pash is actually good for us all year round.
Here are five ways kissing can help improve your health:
1. It can reduce your blood pressure
Andréa Demirjian, author of Kissing: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about One of Life’s Sweetest Pleasures, explains that kissing passionately gets your heartbeat revved in a healthy way that lowers your blood pressure.
“It dilates the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more freely, taking pressure off your organs, especially your heart and brain.”
2. A pash can strengthen your facial muscles
They say a smile only takes about 12 muscles, but it turns out kissing is a much better workout – it uses more than 30 facial muscles.
A good, long kiss can even help strengthen your neck and jawline.
3. Kissing is good for your oral health
When you are kissing, your moUth secretes more saliva, which actually helps wash away plaque on your teeth. Cheaper than a dentist…
4.It can relieve stress
Science says a smooch can lower levels of cortisol, which is the chemical associated with stress. So a kiss at the end of the day is the perfect way to help your body relax.
5. A snog can ease pain
Yip, scientists at Current Pharamceutical Design have conducted a study into kissing and found oxytocin – or the “cuddle hormone” that is released when you are close to your partner – has some analgesic painkilling properties.
