Frizz busters

There are many great things about summer, but humidity - and what it does to your hair - isn’t one of them. Here are some tips to keeping your hair looking smooth and shiny instead of a hot mess.

Limit Shampoo: Many people wrongly assume to keep your hair clean you need to shampoo it daily. This is not the case, and by washing it daily you can strip your hair’s natural oil. So what’s this got to do with frizz? Well, it’s those natural oils that tame flyaways, making them great frizz fighters. If you feel your hair is getting too oily, use a dry shampoo between washes.

Top tip: Brushing your hair regularly will help distribute your natural oils.

Up the Conditioner: One thing you shouldn’t skimp on is your conditioner. Frizz usually comes about when the hair is dry and porous; it sucks up the moisture in the air, causing it to swell. A heavy-handed dose of conditioner will coat the hair shaft, which makes it harder for the moisture to get in.

Top tip: Despite what the bottle tells you to do, when you apply conditioner, leave it on for at least five minutes before you wash off.

Use a serum: Hair serums are extremely beneficial for those with dry and frizzy hair because the serum coats the hair, which works to protect it from the sun, pollution and humidity. For best results make sure you rub the product properly between your hands so it distributes evenly throughout the lengths. And always apply to slightly damp hair.

Beat the heat: We’re not talking about the sun here, but the heat that comes out of your straighteners or curling iron, which can cause hair to look frayed. To alleviate this problem always use a heat-protecting spray before you use any heated hair tools. This will minimise damage overall and also improve the appearance of your hair.
