Whether you have fine hair or a curly mane, these tips will help find the perfect style for your long hair.

But even with long locks you need a style to keep it modern.

With the help of these five long-haired celebrities – including Sarah Jessica Parker, Olivia Wilde, and Zooey Deschanel – we find the perfect style to suit your hair type.

Here are five easy ways to jzush things up:

Cut a fringe

This is a great way to give your hair sophistication and style. But you don’t want your fringe too wide; ie, don’t have it cut wider than the outer corners of your eyes.

If you’re not keen on blunt bangs ask your stylist to snip into the ends so it’s more staggered. Remember though that a fringe requires maintenance, ideally a trim every six weeks.

Add front layers

If your hair is straight go for layers around the face – but keep the rest of your hair one length. This is also great if your hair is fine, as the extra layers add weight and stop your hair looking wispy.

Don’t worry about your face shape either – your hairdresser will be able to position the layers to flatter you.

Cut tapered ends

Curly-haired women need to be extra careful when it comes to long hair – especially if they want to stop it from ballooning out.

Try horizontal layers, which will give the appearance of a tapered curl so the hair still looks thick but more streamlined. The bulk of the hair will be removed, but you will still keep your natural curl.

Add colour

Lots of women with long hair tend to go one of two ways. Either they leave their hair natural, assuming the sun will give them their much sought-after highlights, or they get a dye packet and colour it one block shade.

A sleeker alternative – which usually does require a trip to the salon – is to add a touch of ombré colour to your hair. The subtle lighter shade at the ends will add depth and also give your locks a finished appearance.

Try a side part

While a centre part is pretty standard these days, a side part can totally change your look. It will give the appearance of added volume, with minimal effort.

For extra ‘wow’ factor get the curling tongs out to create voluminous waves.
