Many experts in the field of dermatology advocate daily use of toner as a means of removing impurities that may remain on the face after your cleansing routine.
These days the range available is enormous, and the highly astringent varieties have all but disappeared. Modern formulations are more gentle and less drying. If you have oily skin you may still benefit from using toner and it certainly won’t do any harm.
We asked a woman in her forties with combination skin to try and rate a couple of toners that have hit the market recently.
Here are our tester’s comments:
ESTEE LAUDER – Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Toning Lotion $59
This product smells nice and is very easy to use. I’d read somewhere that toner can sometimes work better if you put a gauze square soaked in it on your face, so I gave that a try and it certainly felt good. I did think my skin was fresher and clearer afterwards. 8/10.
ELIZABETH ARDEN – Visible Difference Oil-Free Toner
I’ve never seen a toner that wasn’t clear before, but this milky fluid did an amazing job of smoothing my skin and making it look distinctly brighter. I’m quite a convert and will use it regularly in future. 8/10
