Estée Lauder’s Modern Muse ($112) is a new kind of fragrance with two distinct elements. It’s a feminine floral with lots of jasmine, citrus and honeysuckle. And it’s also a woody scent with patchouli, amber, vanilla and musk.
The idea is that women will experience this “dual-impression” perfume in their own way. Some will think it’s the flowers that define it, others the more sensual, musky notes. For me, it’s the floral notes that dominate in this easy-wear, grown-up scent. It has a hint of sweetness, but not too much, and is ladylike and subtle enough for any occasion.
You will love it if… you’re looking for a modern classic; fresh, restrained and sophisticated.
You will hate it if… you prefer a glamorous, full-on, statement fragrance. This may seem too tame for you.
