Beauty buzz: pawpaw ointment

The healing powers of papaw have made remedies formulated from the fruit hugely popular. Rich in vitamins and minerals, with antibacterial properties, papaw products are ideal for anything from nappy rash to chapped lips. But not all papaw ointments are created equal, so it pays to read the small print before buying.

Fermented papaw is the potent ingredient you’re looking for – the powdered stuff used in some products isn’t as effective. You’ll find it in the cult classic Lucas’ Papaw Ointment $11.50 (1), which has been around since the 1960s and is still made to the original recipe.

But if you’re a natural skincare user, there is a new treatment worth trying. Phytocare Pure Papaya Ointment $11.50 (2) is free from chemicals and synthetic jellies and has a soothing base of calendula, as well as the all-important fermented papaw.
