Would you get a facial for your bum?

What a cheek… the new ‘bottom facial’ might be a step too far, but some treatments could have more benefits than we think.

Where once we only worried about making sure our face looked its best, now it’s all about your backside and how to get it in tip top shape.

We’re not talking about adding an extra 100 squats to your gym routine. No, to make your bottom look its best, all you have to do is lie there and let the professionals take over.

The Derrière Facial has become quite the rage in the UK and US due to the likes of Jennifer Lopez and the Kardashian clan’s peachy posteriors. While there is no individual derrière facial currently available in New Zealand, there are treatments and products you can use to emulate it.

So here’s what is available down under, so to speak:

Sculpting

What is it? In the UK there is Lipoglaze, which uses two giant vacuum-like nozzles to suck up chunks of your bum fat, working to freeze fat cells. The cells then ‘melt’ away into your system and are naturally eliminated through the body’s metabolic process (ie, when you go to the loo). In New Zealand our closest alternative is ChillSculpt at the Caci Clinic, which works in much the same way. It uses cryolipolysis technology to freeze and reduce fat cells. The difference, however, is that the Caci Clinic won’t work exclusively on your bottom. Instead they’ll work on the upper thigh just below your bum to create more definition in your bottom. It can also help to reshape the position of your behind. So what about side effects? Well, there may be temporary numbness, redness, swelling, and bruising.

Cost: A one-off treatment starts from around $450, but the cost is reduced per treatment if you go on the ChillSculpt programme.

Exfoliation

If your derrière is dimpled with cellulite you may not be able to totally get rid of it. But one thing you can do to lessen the effects is to exfoliate. East Day Spa offers a variety of treatments using their Guam products. Guam is a mud made from traditionally harvested seaweed and marine concentrates. It works by stimulating the fat cells and therefore improves the appearance of cellulite. The Guam Anti-Cellulite Treatment for the thighs includes a wrap, scrub and massage, which all work together to smooth the appearance of the thighs and bottom.

Cost:$150 for 75 minutes.
