MAFS’ Martha and Michael say they’re as surprised as anyone that they’re still together

The couple also offers a theory on why they're still together.

When you think season six Married At First Sight Australia success stories, your mind goes straight to golden couple Cameron Merchant and Jules Robinson.

Who didn’t cry when Cam got down on one knee to propose to Jules at their final commitment ceremony? And since the show wrapped the loved-up couple has been closer than ever. They’re said to be tying the knot for real on their first anniversary on September 20; they recently threw a lavish engagement party in Sydney, and are already talking about having babies.

But another glamorous couple from the reality TV show is still going strong, and that’s Michael Brunelli and Martha Kalifatidis.

At the TV WEEK Logie Awards this week they told TV WEEK that they’re just as shocked as anybody that they’re still together.

“We’re more surprised [that we’re still together] than the rest of you guys to be honest!” Martha laughed.

Michael added: “We just didn’t put any pressure on each other, we just let it grow naturally. We compliment each other really well.”

Last month the couple revealed that Martha had moved to Melbourne to be close to Michael, despite Martha maintaining throughout the series that he would have to move to Sydney to be with her.

They’re not living together; Martha lives with her family in Melbourne and Michael lives one street away. However, they see one another a few times a week and admit they have talked about having babies.

In another surprise twist, the couple revealed that even with all of their differences on-screen, the MAFS cast still keep in touch.

“We have Skype meetings with them! Once a week we all catch up and fill each other in on our lives,” Martha said.

For Michael, a PE teacher from Victoria in Australia, once the drama ceased he was back to regular programming.

“It was kind of a rock star vibe for a little bit!” he admitted of the students at school.

“But now they’ve got a little bit over it and I’m just back to Mr Brunelli the PE teacher.”
