They’ve been a consistently strong team throughout the My Kitchen Rules competition, so it was a bit of a shock to see mother-daughter duo Cathy and Anna booted from Kitchen HQ last night.
Cathy, 55 and Anna, 26, got off to a strong start in their knockout round, which saw them pitted against the equally talented teams of Bree and Jessica and Thalia and Bianca.
Thanks to their speedy beef trimming and trussing skills, the NSW gatecrashers took an early lead from the first part of the challenge. However, Thalia and Bianca dominated the next part of the competition with their skate wings dish, which sent them right into the top five.
That left Cathy and Anna facing down Bree and Jessica in sudden death. When the smoke cleared, the NSW team were sent home with just a single point separating them from victory (they scored 50 points to Bree and Jessica’s 51).

Even though they weren’t part of the original Instant Restaurant rounds, Cathy and Anna quickly became a standout team on MKR this year. Their technique and culinary savvy saw them gain plenty of praise from Pete and Manu, and their flavour combinations were always outstanding.
While it did get tense between the duo at times – especially when Anna took charge of the kitchen! – the mother and daughter left the competition as close as ever. We’re sure plenty of viewers will miss them too!
