The Palace has confirmed that Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge have launched legal action against a magazine that published photographs of Kate swimming and sunbathing topless. French magazine, Closer published grainy photos of Kate and Wills while holidaying in a Chateau in Provence, France before embarking on their jubilee tour of Asia and the Pacific.
The palace released a short statement outlining the legal proceedings. “St James’s Palace confirms that legal proceedings for breach of privacy have been commenced today in France by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge against the publishers of Closer Magazine France,” the statement read.
Kate put on a brave face while Diamond Jubilee tea party at the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, but the couple are said to be very upset when they were shown the photos. A spokesman for the couple told UK newspaper the Daily Mail. “Their sadness has turned to anger and disbelief as we have learnt more about the photographs. We believe a red line has been crossed and we are consulting the French lawyers to see what, if any, action can be taken.”
Closer editor, Laurence Pieau, are planning to fight the Palace’s legal action. “These photos are not in the least bit shocking,” she said insisting they were taken from a public road. “We could not believe how easy it was to see the chateau because normally these kind of places are hidden away. It was quite surprising how open and unsecure the location was,” she said. She later posted a series of antagonistic messages on Twitter, telling her followers that Prince Harry, who recently had his own nude photo scandal, would feel “less alone” when the magazine went on sale.
