She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia which was discovered during some routine blood tests.

In a statement from her team at The Breeze, they shared that she will be starting her first round of aggressive chemotherapy this week. Treatment will impact her immune system, which will require Mel to stay in hospital for the first month, and shorter stays throughout her treatment period.

Mel shared, “I am feeling fighting fit and ready to tackle this head on. I am focusing on the positive and am looking forward to saving on shampoo when I lose my hair in about two weeks time! If anyone needs a cancer influencer, I’m your gal. And look out for the book I’ll most definitely write after this experience.”

Mel returned to radio earlier this year after a rollercoaster journey in media over the last few years. A pro at embracing change, she has hosted on Today FM, the TV morning show The Cafe, competed in Celebrity Treasure Island, and recently returned to radio as the host of The House of Wellness.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be getting really good radio roles at a time when so many people are struggling in our industry. In media these days, you never quite know what’s going to happen next, so for me, this is the best of all worlds,” she shared earlier this year.

All our love and thoughts go out to Mel and her family.
