Veteran broadcaster Phillip Leishman (61) passed away last night after a battle with cancer.
The former Wheel of Fortune host died surrounded by family and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Michelle, and children Harry, India and Lily. Phillip underwent an operation for a brain tumour last year, but although the growth was successfully removed the cancer returned in an aggressive form.
Tributes have been pouring in for Phillip this morning since the news of his passing, with presenter Peter Williams spoke fondly of his colleague and friend on Breakfast.
“He was a fabulous guy, always friendly. What you got on air is what you get off air, which is a sign of a great guy.”
Others in the media took to Twitter in reaction to the news. “Very sad news this morning with the death of Phil Leishman overnight,” Breakfast host Rawdon Christie wrote
“Phillip Leishman, my former colleague who worked hard, loved his family, loved golf and always had a smile on his face. RIP my friend,” wrote broadcaster Neil Waka.
