They came, they queued, they laughed and they cried And when it was all over, the final New Zealand Woman’s Weekly Live! Roadshow made us want to do it all over again next year. Our final stop on our national tour through Farmers stores to celebrate the Weekly’s 80th birthday ended on a cold night in Hamilton last week with a crowd of delighted readers, some of whom had travelled from Rotorua and other cities for the event.
With goodie bags stuffed with cosmetics from Revlon, a Lotto ticket and other delectable items, plus free bubbles from Stoneleigh and hors d’oeuvres created by our hilarious food editor Annabelle White, there weren’t enough seats to accommodate the crowd. Kerre Woodham – a Waikato native – entertained the crowd as she shared secrets from her school years in Hamilton.
Fashion expert Alice O’Connell transformed three local makeover winners with fashion from Farmers. The lucky ladies also received new hair and makeup looks from the makeup artists at Revlon and each winner got to take her new outfit home. Later, Annabelle attempted to create perfect nibbles using little more than a food processor and a helper from the audience – though her tips on how to “walk like a chef” really brought the house down.
Our birthday parties may be over for now, but bringing your magazine to life on stage was a treat we hope to repeat. Join us next time we hit the road.
