Internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom has confirmed he is engaged to Elizabeth Donnelly, with an email saying the rumours are “real”.
The news comes after Kim posted a tweet yesterday saying “Follow @lizz_donnelly aka Elizabeth Dotcom” with a diamond ring emoji.
The 43-year-old also tweeted that his 22-year-old fiancé was “expecting”, but has since retracted his statement.
According to The Herald the couple have been dating for one year, but split temporarily in early February last year after claiming that Elizabeth was facing negative backlash from the public for dating Kim.
“Elizabeth and I have ended our romance. It is unacceptable how the media/public is treating her,” he wrote on his personal twitter account.
“She’s a good person and shouldn’t be subject to shaming or abuse. I can’t accept her getting hurt and it is better for her without me.”
The pair rekindled their relationship shortly after, and Elizabeth moved into Kim’s penthouse on Auckland’s waterfront a few weeks later.
Kim’s relationship with Elizabeth was his first since his wife of five years, Mona, left him in May 2014.
“I thought I would never love again,” Kim told the New Zealand Herald.
“My heart turned ice cold after my separation from Mona. To love and be loved is what happiness is all about. I’m so happy that I met Liz and that I can feel those butterflies again.”
According to the Herald, Elizabeth is studying law and business at Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
“She is much smarter than me and I love that about her,” Kim said of his new love.
