The film, called Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, is directed by Alex Gibney and based on a book written by Lawrence Wright, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.
At a recent ‘TimesTalks’ panel discussing the film, they explained why the documentary focuses in part on Tom Cruise and John Travolta, two of the most famous members of the church.
\”They are the reason a lot of people join, particularly Tom Cruise now,\” Alex said.
\”They have a recruiting power that’s enormous.\”
