American comedienne Rosie O’Donnell has revealed she and girlfriend Michelle Rounds secretly married in a private ceremony in New York, following Michelle’s shock diagnosis with desmoid tumours.
The pair, who announced their engagement last December, revealed to People magazine that they were supposed to marry this month, but instead married in June before Michelle’s operation.
“We married in private before [Michelle’s] surgery, just the [two] of us,” Rosie revealed on her blog, before adding that the couple are planning a bigger ceremony after Michelle’s recovery.
“When we are both well enough will have the wedding of our dreams surrounded by those we cherish,” she wrote.
Rosie’s rep Cindi Berger says that although Michelle’s condition is complex, her operations have gone well. “It is such a rare tumour. It took them quite a while to get an accurate diagnosis,” says Cindi.
“She had several gastrointestinal surgeries to remove the desmoid tumours. She is now on the road to recovery.” Rosie herself had health troubles earlier this month when she suffered a heart attack and has been resting at home.
