Now Simon Cowell has said goodbye to ‘American Idol’, executives are on the lookout for a new or Nasty – and ‘SexyBack’ singer Justin Timberlake is top of their wish list – along with Sir Elton John.
Former producer Nigel Lythgoe is said to be near to signing a deal to return as an ‘Idol’ executive producer and he’s made it known that he favours wiping the existing panel and starting again. When asked who he would like to have as judges, he listed Elton, former judge Paula Abdul and Usher.
Meanwhile, insiders have suggested that Randy Jackson may have the best chance of surviving any ‘Idol’ judge purge. Ellen DeGeneres’ situation is more complicated as she has a multi-year deal, while Kara DioGuardi’s year-to-year deal has not been renewed.
Elton’s name has been frequently discussed for the judge’s spot and he is said to be a favourite of ‘Idol’ creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. Justin is new to the judge’s name game, which has also included crooner Chris Isaak, Howard Stern, Engelbert Humperdink and Harry Connick Jr in recent weeks.
