
As producers tease us with details about season three of Downton Abbey, the show’s new star Shirley MacLaine reveals it was her hairdresser who convinced her take the role. The veteran actress heard about the show while listening to gossip at her local salon.
“I walked into my hairdresser lady in Malibu and they were talking about this [show].
“[I wondered] God, what do they mean?” the 78-year-old revealed to Access Hollywood.
“Then I saw it and oh man, I ran three months of it and I was just as addicted as everybody else,” she said.

Shirley gathered alongside her castmates Hugh Bonneville, Joanne Froggatt, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern and Brendan Coyle at a Television Critics Association conference on Saturday. The event, which featured a sneak peak of the new season, revealed in the new series there will be tension between Maggie Smith’s character Violet Crawley and Shirley’s character, Lady Cora’s mother.
With anticipation for the new show at fever pitch among fans, the British period drama also placed high among Emmy Award nominees, receiving 16 nominations last week.
