Jarryd Stoneman and nan Katie Thomas, 94, made news around the world in March 2016, thanks to their cute dance video that was posted online.

Showing Kiwi Jarryd asking his dementia suffering nan to dance with him, the video gained thousands of shares from well-wishers, and those that just couldn’t resist the beautiful bond between the two.

But now Wellingtonian Jarryd, 24, has announced it’s time for his nan to bid goodbye to her public persona, in order for her to rest.

Posting a video to his Facebook channel on Tuesday, Jarryd told the camera: “We’ve made the decision it’s time for nanny to retire from Facebook fame.

“I think it’s the right time for her to park up and get out of the public eye.”

Turning to his grandma, Jarryd asks “you’re getting tired hey, my nan?”

Sadly, Jarryd added that it isn’t just his nan’s tiredness that’s forced him to quit their adorable updates, adding that he’s been getting quite a lot of hate online for it.

“People try to say I use her for attention. That was never the case. It was just to promote elderly awareness and share our bond.”

Since the initial dancing video went viral, Stoneman has kept Facebook updated about his bond with his nan, posting frequent videos of their time together.
