A woman from Invercargill claims that Prince is the father of her son, after she met the musician while he was in New Zealand four decades ago.
Caren McCormack is applying for her son, Max Stacey McCormack, to be considered as the heir to the late musician’s estate, claiming that Prince fathered him after meeting her in Invercargill.
Prince, who died in April, has had a trust established in his name – The Bremer Trust – which has been charged with looking after his estate and inheritance following his death this year.
Caren, who has a total of five children, says she’s been sitting on the truth for 40 years, despite telling close friends and family members of Max’s true father.
But McCormack insists she’s not in it for the money, she simply wants Prince’s DNA to be proven as a match for her son, so that she can have closure on the event.
According to Caren, she met Prince in Invercargill back in the 70s – when he was 17 and she 16.
And while she declined to say why the young singer was in the southern New Zealand city back then, she said Prince was most certainly Stacey’s father.
“I realise what the public opinion will be like,” she told Stuff
Her son Max lives at home with his mother due to suffering with mental illness. He is not able to work and needs a degree of care, she explained.
McCormack said the family have provided DNA samples that are awaiting shipment to the US for testing.
