You will need to create a framed wallpaper print

What you will need to create framed wallpaper print: wallpaper paste, Resene Quick Dry primer undercoat, brush, screws, knife cutter, Resene paint, leveller

How to create your own framed wallpaper art print:

Prime MDF board

1. Start by priming the MDF board with Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat. Skip this step if you’re applying the wallpaper mural directly to the wall.

2. Prime the precut picture frame moulding at the same time. Once dry, apply two topcoats of Resene SpaceCote Flat in Resene Hindsight to match the walls, which are also painted in Resene SpaceCote Flat in Resene Hindsight. Once the MDF sheet is dry, find the centre and draw a level line. If you are fixing it to the wall, then do this on the wall.

Apply wallpaper glue

3. Mix the wallpaper glue and apply to the wall or board using a paintbrush or roller.

Lay the wallpaper panels

4. The mural arrives as panels, and comes with a plan of how to lay the panels out and where to begin. Lay the first panel or drop along the level line, then use the smoother to get everything flat. Work from the middle of the drop/panel out towards the top and bottom edges to push any air bubbles out.

Trimming wallpaper edges

5. Repeat this process with all the panels, making sure to line the pattern/picture up on the joins. Trim the edges using a sharp knife. If this is going directly on the wall, you will want to use the level to make sure the cuts are straight. Don’t be too fussy as it will be covered by the frame.

Screw the frame into place

6. Fix the frame around the edges – we did this through the back with small screws. If you’re fixing it directly to the wall, you may choose to glue it on. Finally, fix to the wall. This will vary depending on your situation. You can get heavy-duty picture hooks and brackets or screw directly to the wall.
