Lydia and Richard Rayner dreamed of renovating their Lockwood home in Auckland for many years, but the thought of the effort required was enough to keep the pair putting off their plans. However, with the arrival of their newborn baby, they finally decided to tackle the project and design a place the new family addition truly deserved.

“Our dream was to create a space that was bright and inviting, with a homely character,” says Lydia.

The wood walls were sanded, cleaned and sealed with Resene Waterborne Sureseal pigmented sealer, and topped with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in Resene Half Black White, which delivered a bright yet neutral toned background for the family to personalise with decor and photos.

“As we embarked on our renovation journey, we chose to create a unique yet timeless statement in each room,” explains Lydia.

In the living room, a cosy bay window that receives the morning light was painted in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in Resene Half Forest Green for a statement contrast against the white.

Lydia says, “In the main bedroom we opted for a feature wall in the stunning Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in Resene Spanish Green, which brought in the exterior earthy tones from our surrounding bush.”

In their daughter’s room, the couple opted for another feature wall, this time in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in Resene Pearl Bush.

On the exterior, Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen in Resene Ebony was the perfect base for the house, surrounding fences and retaining walls, for a modern yet classic look.

The process of transforming the Lockwood home was “tiresome yet rewarding”, involving sanding walls and grooves, patching holes, then sealing and priming at least two coats prior to applying the final two topcoats.

Now the Rayners can sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labour. Lydia says, “The dream has come true.”
