What little girl wouldn’t be delighted to receive a fluffy, over-the-top tutu as a gift? The best thing about it is that no sewing is required and it all comes together in under half an hour.

Step 1: Lay your tulle out on a flat surface and fold it in half length-wise. Cut 15cm-wide strips of tulle and set them aside.

Step 2: Knot a piece of elastic to the waist size of your child. Make it a wee bit tighter than normal as adding all the tulle will stretch it a bit.

Step 3: Layer two pieces of tulle together.

Step 4: Twist the middle of the tulle to make a loop.

Step 5: Pass the loop through the elastic.

Step 6: Next pull the tails of the tulle back through the loop so that it makes a knot on the elastic.

Step 7: Pull the looped tulle tight, but not too firmly, as you may need to adjust the spacing later.

Step 8: Add more tulle until the elastic is covered. If you want, you can trim the tulle shorter to make a shorter skirt.

Step 9: To finish, add lengths of ribbon between the tulle by looping over (in the same way as you did the tulle), then tie a wide piece of ribbon into a bow at the “front” of the skirt.
