You’ve most likely heard of feng shui: the ancient Chinese practice of arranging buildings, objects and spaces to create harmony and balance. But if you think it’s just about repositioning your bed and mirror, think again. New Zealand-based Feng Shui master says at its heart, feng shui isn’t about strict rules. It’s about how the spaces we create shape the way we feel and live every day.
Woolworths is proving you’re never too young to learn the art of how a home “works” — where things belong, how rooms flow, how spaces feel – with its third release of Bricks Home collectables. The Woolworths Bricks Home edition allows children to collect, build and play as they create their own miniature home environments. Customers can collect and swap all 40 miniatures inspired by everyday home life, from pantry staples and home essentials to appliances, interiors, pets and family characters.

Feng-shui expert Master Young — yes, he’s available for home visits — says using blocks to create and visualise children’s spaces can help bring good energy into the home.
“Using building blocks or drawings to plan a room together helps children feel involved, confident and more settled in their space,” says Master Young.
“A cluttered or confusing layout can make children feel unsettled without knowing why. A clear and simple layout helps them feel calm and secure.”
We spoke to Master Young about how to achieve good feng shui in our children’s spaces.

How can we make spaces work for our families?
Master Young says the biggest myth about feng shui is that it’s about “superstition or lucky objects”.
“In reality, it’s about understanding how space affects people and making thoughtful, practical decisions about layout and everyday living.
“Good feng shui looks calm, practical and easy to live in. It’s a home that supports daily life and relationships, with enough movement to feel alive but without constant stress or disruption.”
Children’s bedrooms are particularly important when it comes to feng shui, as they are often spaces for play, sleep, emotional regulation and a sense of safety.
“Because children are still developing habits and self-awareness, their environment plays a bigger role in supporting wellbeing.”
Master Young recommends creating clear zones for play and rest in children’s bedrooms to help them transition smoothly between activity and wind-down time.
“When play and rest areas are clearly defined, each function works better, and children can move more easily between activity and relaxation.”
