Care for silk

I’ve just bought a lovely silk top but I’m not sure how to care for it. Any tips?

Silk is a luxurious fabric but it can need specialist cleaning, so always check the label before washing. Some silks can be hand-washed in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent but others must be drycleaned.

If you’re washing silk by hand, make sure to add a few drops of gentle fabric conditioner to the final rinse to prevent static cling.

Silk dries very quickly and should never be tumble-dried or placed near a direct heat source. Steam-iron carefully on a low heat, placing a cloth over the silk to protect it.
