How supplements founder Jessica Sepel takes a balanced approach to healthy living

Discover Jessica Sepel's secrets to wellness and beauty

Meet Jessica Sepel, the nutritionist, best-selling author, and founder of holistic supplement and skincare brand JSHealth. Having made a name for herself with her approach to balanced living, she hails from Sydney but has just relocated to Los Angeles.

In fact, Jessica is happiest when relaxed at home, boasting an impressive slipper collection — her version of a shoe addiction!

Speaking to Now to Love, Jessica shares her personal journey to health, her top wellness tips for those who are time-poor or on a budget, and what’s next for JSHealth.

“I truly believe in never denying yourself of anything and trying instead to focus on what you should be eating and doing…and trying to keep it as simple as possible”, says Jessica.

What inspired you to work in the wellness industry?

I grew up in a healthy household with a mum who was always whipping up healthy meals and practising yoga!

However, as a teenager, I developed an unhealthy relationship with food and lost my passion for health. After studying to be a nutritionist, I found that love again. I started JSHealth as a candid way to connect with other women on a similar journey.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I am a creature of habit. I wake up every morning and do a ten-minute workout from the JSHealth App (it’s usually yoga), then practice five minutes of gratitude.

After that, I have a coffee! An oat piccolo and breakfast (usually grainy cereal with seeds and yoghurt or a JSHealth smoothie), either at home or at my desk if I have an early meeting.

I’d love to say my days are hugely adventurous, and while each day usually brings something new to tackle, it’s usually at the office — working.

JSHealth Vitamins is in a global expansion phase, which comes with long days trying to match up time zones. Still, wherever we are in the world, my husband Dean and I will always go for a night walk. Even if it’s 9pm, we walk to decompress. It’s such a treasured ritual for us.

What are some of the common health problems your customers seek to alleviate through your vitamin range?

JSHealth Vitamins creates targeted formulas designed to help support our community’s pain points. My community constantly tells me what they are struggling with — the most common problems we hear about are energy, digestion, sleep, skin and mood.

If you look at the JSHealth Vitamins range, the names of the formulas clearly speak to what they do, and help take confusion out of the overwhelming supplement industry.

What is the most popular JSHealth Vitamins product?

JSHealth Vitamins Hair + Energy is our global best seller, along with Detox + Debloat and Skin + Digestion. These formulas help people reclaim their confidence — whether with hair support, bloating relief, or reducing symptoms of acne.

Which JSHealth products do you reach for daily and why?

My supplement program can change depending on what I feel I need extra support with, but I never miss an evening of our PM + Sleep + Calm Mind formula, a key part of my nighttime sleepy routine. It contains lavender and passionflower, plus magnesium…it’s like sweet dreams in a tablet!

I also use our 4-step Vitamin Skincare System morning and night and have noticed the most incredible transformation of my skin hydration.

I’m never without a JSHealth Vitamins Protein Bar in my bag or desk — the perfect and most delicious snack on the go.

Tell us more about your skincare range.

The JSHealth skincare launch expanded our existing range to give our community even greater support topically.

Personally, when I hit 30, I noticed my skin needed more support than it used to, and I couldn’t find natural products that delivered results.

I am so proud of the difference it is making to people’s skin. Now, our community can have skincare that’s natural, science-focused and results-driven all at once!

Are there any future product launches we should know about?

I’m working on a few exciting things, but they are top secret for now… stay tuned!

What are your top tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, to me, it’s really about trying to aim for a long-term healthy balance. As someone who has struggled in the past, I know first-hand that fad diets and trends don’t often lead to anything sustainable and can cause more harm than good.

I exercise to nourish my body, not to punish it. I exercise less these days because of my commitment to tune into my body and listen to it. Some days, I wake up a little tired, so I’ll rest and take it easy. Some days I wake up energised, so I’ll do one of my favourite workouts. These days, that ranges from walking, yoga or a HIIT session.

I used to feel so much pressure to do a hardcore workout daily as part of the diet culture mentality of “burning off calories.” The moment I started exercising with kindness and balance, my relationship with my body changed – so this is what I practise and preach.

“I know first-hand that fad diets and trends don’t often lead to anything sustainable and can cause more harm than good”, says Jessica.

Tell us about the books you’ve authored.

My first book deal for The Healthy Life will always be one of my proudest career achievements. It was the moment I realised that people wanted to hear what I had to say and that I had the opportunity to help so many people.

All three of my books, The Healthy Life, Living the Healthy Life, and the 12 Step Mind Body Reset, are about helping guide people struggling to find balance in their approach to a healthy life. I truly believe in never denying yourself of anything and trying instead to focus on what you should be eating and doing…and trying to keep it as simple as possible.

There are no complex recipes with hard-to-find ingredients — just simple, delicious and nourishing food coupled with kindness to oneself and flexibility.

What’s your favourite go-to meal?

I am currently loving the JSHealth Easy One Pan Japanese Salmon & Veggies and the 5-ingredient Eggplant Parmigiana.

How can we maintain our wellness if we’re time-poor or on a budget?

We know a 10-step skincare routine, 45 individual supplements over breakfast and a personal trainer aren’t attainable for most people. This is why my books include a category of recipes called “one pan” dishes that take moments to prepare in one dish, with minimal cleanup.

One of my biggest budget-friendly tips is to shop for what’s in season. If you’re time-poor, leftovers or Sunday meal prep are lifesavers.
