Why it's never too late to get fit

Scientists recently claimed it is never too late to start exercising, so what should you do in your fifties?

MEN: Take up running. A study of 53,000 people aged 20 to 100 at the University of South Carolina showed that people who run around 32km a week are less at risk of heart disease. Risk of injury is often a reason people avoid running in their fifties.

WOMEN: Those in their fifties who swim regularly are more likely to lose weight and maintain good health than those who walk for fitness, an Australian study found. Swimming improved insulin in the short term, while body weight and blood fats were reduced in the long term.
