Hangovers get worse with age – and 40 is when you’re more likely to suffer after a night on the booze.

A US study found effects such as headaches and nausea are worse when you’re older, because you are more likely to have less muscle, which absorbs the alcohol.

Older people are also more prone to dehydration, which makes the symptoms of a hangover worse, and the liver finds it harder to break down the toxins in alcohol when you’re older.
