Take the cuss out of curls

Take the cuss out of curls with a few easy to apply tricks and tips.
Beauty tips for curly hair

Styles to suit you

After shampooing or wetting hair, blot excess moisture with a towel and gently scrunch in the serum or gel without pulling.

  • Blow-drying, even with a diffuser, can destroy curl definition and increase frizz. Air-drying is a better option.

  • Lack of shine can be an issue, especially for those with coarse curls. Keep hair in premium health by using a sulphate-free shampoo and a leave-in conditioner. It will also help if you choose a colour that reflects the light – browns and chestnuts do this better than blondes.

  • Next-day hair will need some help to eliminate that slept-on look. For some, it’s just a matter of squeezing in a little more product to control loose frizz.

  • However I find I need to wet my curls in the shower, detangle with a wide-tooth comb and then apply a good amount of a conditioning styler to revive my wavy/curly hair. I then reshape when dry, creating a little separation with my fingers (it looks best if I avoid touching it while it’s in the process of drying).

  • Don’t shampoo too often, as it can leave the cuticle dry and curls will appear dull and frizzy. Many in the curly community swear by using a conditioning oil treatment, pre-shampoo, to prevent this. Organic coconut oil is another secret for gloss and health.

  • Too much heat styling will end in limp locks as it alters the proteins that give curls their spiral shape – so step away from those irons.
