Look younger for longer

**Sign of ageing … dry, rough, wrinkly skin

**Now there are anti-ageing treatments designed especially for that area. Arms, hands and the décolletage are particularly prone to showing the signs of ageing. ooisturising after a shower and using sun protection can do a lot to slow the process but there are also anti-ageing treatments specifically for the body.

**Sign of ageing … lifeless hair

**As we age, the production of keratin decreases and hair fibres lose substance and become thinner resulting in flat, dull and lifeless hair. There’s a loss of volume, strength and the ability to retain colour. Hair can become delicate and difficult to manage. Look out for products which contain an ingredient called Coenzyme Q10 often found in wrinkle creams. It penetrates into the root and helps reactivate keratin production and promote healthy hair growth.

**Sign of ageing … fine lines and wrinkles

**A skincare product that contains retinol could help. This pure form of vitamin A has been shown to penetrate deep into the skin to stimulate cell renewal and diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Ideally, you should start using it in your late 20s-early 30s to help delay ageing but older skin should still see good results over time. Sensitive skin can sometimes react to retinol with redness and flaking while it acclimatises so take it slowly – perhaps use it every other day to begin with if you are prone to problems.

**Products targeted at reversing the signs of sun damage could help. Look out for products with vitamin C, lycopene and magnesium to help surface cell renewal plus protect the skin from further damage.

  • Having a hair colour that doesn’t match your skin tone. Since we tend to lose colour from our complexion, it’s necessary to tweak hair colour, making it warmer or lighter. Highlights and lowlights are a great way to give hair a lift and have a brightening effect on the face.

  • Foundation that sinks into your wrinkles. Go lighter with base as you get older. And steer clear of powdered mineral formulas or anything matte. Leave them for the younger girls.

  • over-plucked brows, feathering lipstick, frosted metallic eye shadows, lots of eyeliner beneath the eyes, too much face powder (just powder the high shine areas), forgetting to wear blusher.

  • Smoking, sunbedding, eating badly, not exercising, being stressed, tiredness and constantly sipping drinks through a straw or bottle (yes, really!)
