Do wear enough fragrance so that you smell wonderful to those who get close to you. But if the person at the next desk starts commenting on your scent, then you’re overdoing it. You’ll become used to a fragrance you use regularly, so avoid the temptation to spritz on more than you really need.
DoN’T spray perfume in the air and then walk through it. You’ll just be walking through air and the scent will fade quickly.
Do apply one spritz of perfume per pulse point – at the nape of your neck, behind your wrist, behind your knee, in the crook of your elbow and behind your ears.
DoN’T spray fragrance over the décolletage or throat, as it can be drying to those sensitive areas.
Do stick to lighter fragrances during the day, especially if you work in an enclosed space with other people. Save the rich, sultry scents for nights out on the town.
DoN’T buy a perfume based on what it smells like on the tester card. Put it on your skin and wait at least 10 minutes for the full impact. Ideally, you should only try one fragrance at a time, wearing it all day to see how it lasts and changes over time.
Do use a matching body moisturiser if you want fragrance to last. Perfume clings best to moist skin – put fragrance on first and seal it in with body lotion.
DoN’T feel you have to stick to one perfume all the time. Instead have a fragrance wardrobe of up to six scents that you use according to the season, occasion or your mood. Store them out of sunlight and away from heat, so they last longer and stay truer.
