- Your hairdryer plays a vital role in the success of a good blow-wave. Look for a hairdryer of at least 1600 watts and don’t throw away the end nozzle – controlling the direction of the air helps keep frizz to a minimum.
- Heat protection is a must. Towel-dry your hair using gentle squeezes, then apply a good heat-protection serum – I love ghd’s thermal protector ($34). oassage it thoroughly into your hair.
- Using your hairdryer on a high heat and speed, aim to get your hair two-thirds dry before you start your brush work. This will create less strain on your arm and gives a better result. Use your fingers to lift and loosely style your hair as you dry it.
- At this point, if you are prone to the frizzies, rub a little anti-frizz serum between your hands and distribute evenly through your hair. I love Kérestase oleo Relax serum ($35).
- Now it’s time to start your brush work to create a great style. Begin at the back – take a small section of hair from underneath and secure the rest out of the way. Using a round bristle brush, brush the hair in the direction you want it to go and concentrate the hot air in a downwards direction. This will help to avoid frizz and damage to the hair.
- Work your way from the underneath to the top layers in sections – this shouldn’t be too hard if your hair is already two-thirds dry. If you have already used serums while styling, you shouldn’t use any more or your hair could become too weighed down. But if you’re going out, you could finish with a light spritz of hairspray.
