My hairdresser knows all too well I adore a beautiful bouncy blowout, but I find it almost impossible to achieve the same salon-quality results at home, no matter how many fancy – and pricey – gadgets, sprays or serums I use. In fact, it often takes a fair amount of effort to look, well, effortless – not to mention a tonne of time and a whole lot of heat damage. Ugh, the irony. Ugh, the split ends!

Fortunately, I got my hands on the cult Shark FlexStyle Air Drying & Styling System and put it to the test. This hair tool was so wildly popular that upon its launch, it quickly sold out across Australia, the US and the UK, and had more than 12,000 people on its waitlist.

But is this “it girl” beauty tool really worth the hype? Read my review of the Shark FlexStyle to find out.

What does the Shark FlexStyle do?

The FlexStyle system centres around a powerful hairdryer, which boasts four heat and three airflow settings. It minimises heat exposure, as well as giving you total control to tailor your experience to suit every hair type and texture. But here’s where it gets extra-clever.

Bundled into a luxe travel case, the Shark FlexStyle comes complete with five attachments – auto-wrap curlers, oval brush, paddle brush, styling concentrator and a curl-defining diffuser – which enable you to easily transform the adaptable hairdryer into a versatile multi-styler.

Putting the Shark FlexStyle to the test:

My review verdict:

The Shark FlexStyle’s paddle brush has quickly become my daily must-have. It swiftly dries, straightens and smooths my long, unruly hair with its detangling and shine-boosting combination of boar and nylon bristles.

But my firm favourite is the auto-wrap curlers, which can be used on damp or dry hair. Incredibly easy to use, the curlers gently wrap your hair around the barrel, using air – not heat – to dry and style, while the cool-shot button sets the curl. Achieving the glossy, bouncy curls of my dreams without compromising the health of my hair has never been so easy – the true definition of effortless style.
