Morning beauty routine
My morning routine changes depending on what I’m doing that day.
If I shower first thing, I’ll always cleanse with either my Ki cleanser, Murad Essential C cleanser or Osmosis Purify Cleanser. I use them all for different reasons so it just depends how my skin is feeling that day.
At the moment I’m using Osmosis Correct, Catalyst and Rescue serums and I massage them into my face using Osmosis Clear Activating Mist.
I then apply Murad Essential C moisturizer that has SPF in it.
These days I have more makeup-free days than ever – but I’ll always apply eyeliner.
I use MAC Boot Black liquid liner on the top, and a pencil eyeliner on the bottom to give the illusion of eyelashes [Editor’s note: Anna has alopecia, which causes hair loss].
For a basic makeup look, I’m loving the Osmosis pressed powder. It’s very sheer and gives you a beautiful even skin tone.
After applying the powder, I’ll set it with Osmosis Hydrating Mist and use a Mariah Carey for Mac blusher called Sweet Sweet Fantasy. I’ll then use MAC Soft and Gentle highlighter.
Night’s out
If I’m heading out, I love to do a smokey eye with neutral tones.
I always start my makeup with my eyes, so that I can clean up any mess that falls on my cheeks without ruining my foundation. Lack of lashes means that this happens all the time!
Before I go in with eyeshadow I’ll pop on some Urban Decay eyeshadow Primer Potion to make it last.
At the moment I’m alternating between three palettes – an Elizabeth Arden eyeshadow quad, Kylie Jenner’s Burgundy “Kyshadow” palette and Naked 2.
I use these to add depth to my eyes, and I’ll often extend my eyeliner out to a little cat-eye flick.
For primer, the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start is a current favourite.
Depending on how much coverage I’m wanting and how tan I am – I alternate between YSL Touche Eclat, Osmosis Longwear Liquid Foundation, MAC Face & Body and Lancome Vissionaire.
After my foundation, I’ll apply either MAC Mineralize Concealer or Osmosis Age Defying concealer.
Years ago when I was modelling, a makeup artist taught me that you should always put concealer on after your foundation to avoid applying too much.
After you apply your foundation you can see what blemishes are still showing, so that you don’t cover too much and end up with a cakey base.
I then use a MAC concealer in a lighter shade on my under eye area, and I’ll apply it with a flat-top stippling brush.
I’ll then set my under eye area with Laura Mercier setting powder. That stuff is seriously amazing, it makes your skin feel so soft and stays on forever.
For bronzer I love Benefit Hoola, the new Elizabeth Arden Forever Bronze compact or Osmosis Lustrous Contour Duo.
Highlighters are my absolute favourite beauty products.
I use an old limited edition Elizabeth Arden one from their Sunset Collection which I bought heaps of because I knew that I’d never be able to buy them again.
MAC Soft & Gentle is also an amazing highlighter, and I love Becca liquid and powder highlighters too.
I’ll apply them to the highest point of my cheekbones, across the arch of my brow area, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupids bow above my top lip.
I’ll then set my face with Urban Decay All-Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray, or MAC Fix+.
If I only had one product to glam up with for a night, It would have to be a lipstick.
I’m a firm believer that a bold lip always brightens your face and can transform a look – I’m partial to orange based reds or bright pinks. My absolute favourite is Mac Lady Danger.
I always carry handfuls of lipsticks around in my bag and it’s become a running joke with my girlfriends at dinner to count all of my lipsticks.
Evening beauty routine
I’ll start by taking my makeup off with makeup wipes, or a Take It Off towel.
Take It Off towels are amazing, you literally just run it under warm water and it gets everything off your face – even stubborn eyeliner.
I’ll then cleanse my face, reapply my morning serums and pop on Elizabeth Arden Prevage Night Cream.
Every second day I also roll my skin with a dermal needle roller with .3mm length. It helps promote skin regeneration by making tiny pricks all over the skin.
Since I’ve gotten older my beauty routine has changed in that I’ve started using serums and proper moisturizers. I used to only ever cleanse my face and use makeup wipes.
I’m really lucky to have pretty great skin so I never needed to do much – but I want to keep it nice and start fighting off the aging process.
If I want to pamper myself, I can’t go past a massage at East Day and I always get my nails done every two weeks with Petrina at Orly Nail Girls. I’ve been going to her for the past 7 years; she is the best and has transformed my former bitten nails. She also does my tan with her organic and vegan formula called “Tan Babe”.
I’ve also been on a skin changing course at Caci for the last few months, which involves a treatment every fortnight. It’s super luxurious!
My wigs are made by Freedom Wigs, and I get them cut and coloured by Auckland hairstylist Chloe Zara.
I only need to get each one cut once, as they obviously don’t grow out – but I’ll occasionally get the colours touched up, especially my blonde one if it has gone brassy.
Last year I got my eyebrows tattooed by On Browhouse, and that was the first time I’ve had eyebrows since I lost all my hair. I love having them now, they really do transform your face.
I’m rolling my eyes at myself for this, but at the moment my celebrity beauty icon is definitely Kim Kardashian. She’s been rocking paired-back makeup – nothing fancy, just incredible skin. I love it.
